Rigorous geriatric diabetes treatment programs are not much different than what a middle-aged patient with diabetes would be doing for his/her diabetes. This treatment is usually for patients who have no major looming, serious ailments or disease conditions. If you are such a person, failure to get on a complete diabetes treatment program could very well lead to diabetic complications.
I have been living with diabetes for over 20 years now. It is possible to completely slow down the progression and one day it will be treatable. Whatever you do, please do not give up on life. Diabetes is a serious disease but with the proper treatment you can live a normal life.

Addressing the Dietary Needs of the Diabetic

The client who is diagnosed as a diabetic must face the challenges of restructuring their diet. A health diet and proper management can enhance their health by promoting stable glucose. The diabetic uses oral hypoglycemic agents, insulin or both must still monitor their eating habits and know what food groups to choose from to help them control their blood glucose levels.

A healthy diet is essential for the diabetic client. The diabetic food pyramid is not much different from the food pyramid for the non-diabetic population. However, it does parallel the National Cholesterol Education Program for the primary and secondary prevention of Coronary Heart Disease.

Total carbohydrates are the sum of all the sugars, starches, and fiber that the diabetic consumes. It has been proven that there are certain carbohydrates that can cause a rise in serum blood glucose levels. These carbohydrates are identified by their glycemic index. The glycemic index or GI is a measure of ingested carbohydrates effects on blood glucose levels. (1) Carbohydrates that are broken down quickly in the digestive tract are considered having a high glycemic index, whereas, carbohydrates that are broken down slowly have a low glycemic index. Depending on which type of carbohydrate a diabetic chooses or like to eat can have an impact on the blood glucose level. The glycemic index is not usually found on food labels. So how does one tell the difference between high and low glycemic index foods? It is not that hard to tell. Processed sweets, foods high in sugar, cakes, sweets, sweet breads and candy contain carbohydrates with a high glycemic index, basically all the goodies. Foods that have a low glycemic index are those foods that take the digestive system longer to break down, such as grains, fibers, fruit and vegetables. These low glycemic foods help the diabetic balance their blood glucose levels because the foods do not cause a rush of sugar into the blood stream. Instead there is a gradual release of glucose. The diabetic who is on insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents will be able to keep their blood sugar from spiking. Blood glucose levels can still get very high with insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents. This is what the diabetic needs to avoid. This is what is meant by the term, "tight glycemi control". This site offer a database of the glycemic index of many brand name foods on the market. It can help the diabetic make educated healthy choices about the foods that they like to eat. The Glycemic Index recommends the following choices:

• Use breakfast cereals based on oats, barley and bran
• Use breads with whole grains, stone-ground flour, sour dough
• Reduce the amount of potatoes consumed
• Eat all other types of fruit and vegetables
• Use Basmati® or Doongara Rice®
• Enjoy pasta, noodles, Quinoa
• Enjoy salads vegetables with a vinaigrette dressing

It is recommended that the diabetic client lower their saturated fat intake. Choosing foods such as low-fat milk, cheese, and yogurt, and limiting lean meats to 5 ounces per day, are considered healthy. Avoid processed foods such as frozen French fries, frozen chicken finger, potato chips, and fried fast food. Cholesterol can be reduced by avoiding organ meats such as kidneys and liver, and by limiting egg yolks to two weekly. Egg Beaters® are a good substitute for eggs, especially if the individual likes a daily serving of eggs. If at all possible, alcohol should be avoided, however if it is not possible, then the diabetic should try to limit their intake to two or fewer daily. Alcohol is just empty calories and has no nutritional value.

Eating healthy by making choices from nutritional food groups can help the diabetic achieve stable blood glucose levels in conjunction with their current diabetic medication.

Diabetes and Original Limu

Original Limu dramatically reduces glucose absorption balance" according to Reproductive Nutrition and Development.

What this study suggests is that the polysaccharides in seaweed (fucoidan) slows the infusion of glucose into the blood stream. By doing this the blood sugar levels are kept stable and excessive insulin responses are prevented. In other words Original Limu may help to keep the blood sugar levels within normal limits.

Now, I have never worked with anyone who has diabetes that didn't benefit from Original Limu. Even the most brittle diabetic responds dramatically to it. The rule of thumb I use is simple: If you eat three meals a day you drink Original Limu three times a day, if you eat 5 meals a day, divide the Original Limu into 5 amounts.

I start out each person on 6 oz of Original Limu a day: 2 oz with breakfast, 2 oz with lunch and 2 oz with dinner. If they are eating an unusually large dinner you can always increase the evening dose to 3 oz.

Don't forget you're working with a food, not a medicine. If they're going to have a treat, they can drink an extra dose of Original Limu to help balance it. They need to keep track of their Blood Sugar levels anyway so increasing the Original Limu until it works for them is not a big deal. Original Limu can be very flexible!

There will be times when diabetics may not need as much and also times when they need more. After they have been on Original Limu for a period of time they will be able to tell where they need to be. Never tell anyone to stop taking their medicine. That is their doctor's job and we're not practicing medicine. We are using food to help our body's work the way they were intended to work.

A man I know who was so brittle that any amount of carbs would send him sky high. He could not even eat a small baked potato. With all his medicines they were still unable to keep his sugars regulated. On Original Limu he did even out, and was able to have small portions of carbohydrates without problems.

Another lady on Original Limu was taken off her diabetic medicine by the doctors because she didn't need them anymore, as long as she was on Original Limu. She drank an extra dose of Original Limu just before she went to bed because she had gotten in the habit of eating ice cream late every night.

Diabetics are used to watching their Blood Sugar. They are able to regulate and experiment with the amounts of Original Limu they need to maintain a good sugar level. So start out with the 2 oz with each meal. They know their body better than anyone, and you can never overdose on original Limu. It's only food... a powerful food!

If the 2 oz at each meal is not making a difference within a couple days, increase that amount to match the size of the meal. Maybe 2 oz at breakfast and lunch and 3 oz with dinner. It's possible that after being on Original Limu for an extended period of time, they may find that they can decrease it and their blood sugars will stay the same.

Incidentally, that's the way they are prescribed their medicine from their doctors. They're given a certain scale they adjust according to their needs as they watch their blood sugar. In the hospital they use a Sliding Scale; if you're above the parameters you get more insulin, if you're too low you get juice or maybe 50% dextrose injection. So what would you prefer to work with?

Now, you know all the problems diabetics have with this disease... Yes, the neuropathies, blindness, kidney damage, the list is endless, slow healing of wounds, etc, etc, etc.... Well, with Original limu, many of those problems disappear.

Diabetes is a killer. It's one of the most devastating diseases that we see in the hospital. It causes people to lose their quality of life long before they eventually lose their live's. If Original Limu was able to stop the progression or even reverse the problem and you had diabetes..... wouldn't you want to know about Original Limu?
